Avonlea Cottages was founded in 1928 by our Grand Mother, Catherine Wyand. They were first started on Cavendish Beach as a canteen with home baked goods and fresh homemade ice cream; these were prepared by the family and delivered daily to the canteen for the people at the beach. As time progressed over several years, visitors requested accommodations to stay and cottages were added to the operation. The next addition was a dining room serving breakfast, lunch and dinner up to sixty people daily.
In 1973 the cottages were moved from the National Park location as Parks Canada required the land for other purposes and the lease was not renewed. The current location is where they were moved and remain today on well manicured, mature land, that is centrally located on the main drive in Cavendish, PEI.
Avonlea Cottages were started by the Wyand family and are still run by that family, Catherine’s grandson, Roy and his wife Doreen Wyand.
Location is one of our best assets, as we are close to everything you will want to visit during your stay with us and we will help you organize any of those visits with passes to the National Park Beach, Avonlea Village Passes or tickets to see Anne of Green Gables at the Confederation Center of the Arts. We can even help you cook your catch of the day if you choose to take a deep sea fishing trip!
We hope that our family can help your family have a great PEI experience!
